HOSA Breakfast

On October 16, 2014 the Academy of Bio-medical Careers attended the annual HOSA leadership breakfast at Jungle Island. About 59 students attended and helped  represent American Senior High-school, two students are running for regional office. Opening Ceremony was presented by Albert  Copeland and roll call was presented by Yanalyn Rios.

Carman Sandino was running for Regional Vice President.














Open House

We had our Open House on September 30th, parents came in and talked to the teachers and asked their questions about the academy.


Day in the Life of a Nurse

On November 7th, the ABC Academy  nursing program went to University of Miami Hospital to participate in 'Day in the Life of a Nurse'  program. They gave them a look into their surgical intensive care unit, cardiovascular lab, viewed a patient during a cardiac catheter  procedure, and a glimpse into a surgical suite with their newest laparoscopic surgical enhancement tool called the Da Vinci. One of our very own Aariel Davis won a Kindle in response to completing both post survey 


Campus Tour of Miami Lakes Tech Educational Center
















On November 19, the ABC Academy visited Miami Lakes Tech new medical campus. We got to see how the teachers and students interact with one another. They showed us their equipment and demonstrated how to use them.We met with the principle and he spoke about how he runs the school.

American Is a Magnet Academy

The Academy of Biomedical Careers (ABC) Magnet Program


The Magnet Academy of Biomedical Careers(ABC) is anticipating a significant increase in student numbers to our Patriot Family. American Senior High School is proud to announce the Magnet program has received well over 200 applications for the 2014-2015 school term. The curriculum offers 9th graders Medical Skills & Services, 10th graders Anatomy & Physiology. For the 11th grade curriculum there is a choice between Nursing Assistant and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). In 12th grade students will become academy completers in the Electrocardiograph Aide (EKG) class.

Disney's Coronodo Springs Resort


The regional winners from Dade County: Ivanna Corzo, Jasmine Bailey, Carmen Sandino and courtesy Court Melanie Perez, traveled to Disney's Coronado Springs in Orlando for the Annual  HOSA State  Leader Ship Conference and Competition. The students participated in this years competition and  in the election for HOSA's new State Officer Team. These Four ladies, accompanied by their chapter Adviser Ms.Panka, represented American Senior High School with patriot Pride; demonstrating only the best professional qualities a future health care professional should express.


After completing their competitions, Ms.Panka and the ladies were able to book tickets to visit the magical world of Disney in Magic Kingdom. A magical time was had by these amazing HOSA representatives!

HOSA Makes it to STATES Competion!

Our HOSA members have proudly participate and placed in the HOSA, Region 7, Competitive Events.
The District Winners include:
HOSA President Ivanna Corzo placing 3rd place in Prepared Speaking
HOSA Vice President Melanie Perez placing 4th in Medical Terminology,
HOSA member Jasmine Bailey placing 1st in Extemporaneous Health poster,
and members Karina Cabrera placing 4th in Nursing Assistant;
Michelle Medina placing 3rd in Veterinarian Science;
Carmen Sandino 3rd in Medical Spelling;
Zanadi Gaspard placed 4th in Human Growth and Development;
and Jalia Sosa placing 5th in Extemporaneous health poster.

The HOSA following members will attend HOSA States Competition in Orlando FL, at Disney s Coronado Springs from April 3, 2014 till April 6,2014:

The HOSA members will represent American Senior High School in the upcoming Competition with Patriot Pride at the states competition.

HOSA State Leadership Conference-Orlando, FL

Congratulations to Ivanna Corzo who was recognized for and won the GOLD Medal for the Barbara James Service Award for Health Occupations Students of America member with the most outstanding volunteer community service effort in the great state of Florida.  She is eligible to compete again at the National level in Nashville, Tennessee later this summer.  A special recognition for the efforts of the other three students who also competed:
Marwat Baltagi competing in Extemporaneous Speaking
Melanie Perez competing in Medical Terminology
Zanadi Gaspard competing in Human Growth and Development knowledge test and thank you to Brittney Lewis helping as Courtesy Corp.

Industry Certification
The Academy of Biomedical Careers is preparing its students for Industry Certification in the Health Care Professions.   The Electrocardiography Class successfully completed the CET Exam and are now Certified EKG Technicians.  The CMAA Exam will be given May 2 during 6th period and students are studing now in preparation for this exam as Certified Medical Administrative Assistants.  Nursing Assistant Students are also preparing for their CNA Exam.  They are in the process of identification and background checks while studing for this exam which should be with in a few weeks.  They will then awarded the title of Certified Nursing Assistants.  Succesfully passing an Industry Certification exam is rewarded with a graduation cord to be worn at thier Graduation ceremony.
